What is Delta 8?
Delta 8 is a cannabinoid that is found in trace amounts in the hemp plant. The most well-known THC is called Delta-9, the illicit drug illegal in most states. Within the hemp plant there are various isomers, such as delta 8 and delta 10. Isomers have an identical chemical formula but are arranged differently, giving it new pharmacological properties.
From the University of Illinois, Roger Adams possessed the first pure delta 8 compound. The compound delta 8 has been growing in popularity because of the vast similarities it holds with delta 9: euphoria, happiness, sedation, and much more. With the similarities delta 8 has with delta 9, it graciously lacks the occasional anxiety and paranoia some of its consumers inhibit.
Delta 8 has a lower psychoactive potency than delta 9, but higher than that of delta 10. Delta 8 has a slightly weaker bind to the CB1 receptors than delta 9, much like delta 10, giving consumers mild effects of delta 9 THC. Because of the uneven binding, delta 8 delivers effects of an indica while delta 10 effects are more of a sativa. Many consumers will use delta 8 closer to nighttime routines to calm the body and mind before relaxing for the day.
